Cleansing The Mind
A master, a guru taught his disciple all that he knew. Having taught all the scriptures, he told the disciple that for the final teaching he will have to go to a near by ashram. The disciple was told that there in the ashram, the other guru shall impart final teaching.
The disciple was wondering why his guru would send him to another guru even though his guru was much more knowledgeable than the other guru who was expected to give him the final teaching.
Though in a dilemma, the disciple decided to obey his guru and went to the nearby ashram to meet the other guru.
To his surprise, he found that the other guru had stopped teaching. He was engrossed in serving food to his disciples with love, cleaning up the leftovers, washing the dishes etc.
The disciple saw this and learnt what it meant to serve out of love. Later he noticed something profound. The guru himself washed the dishes and kept them in order before going to sleep.
Next morning, the disciple again observed that the other guru took out the dishes, washed them again and started cooking.
The disciple wondered as to why the other guru washed the dishes all over again in the morning while they were already been washed thoroughly earlier in the night and all the dishes were not dusty either.
The disciple observed all such details and came back to narrate to his earlier guru. He said, I cannot understand the strange fact of why the other guru in the ashram wash the already cleaned vessels again in the morning. What is the necessity of doing this?
The earlier guru replied, ‘Yes, this is the understanding that I wanted you to observe and get it completely.’
We clean our mind regularly, but our mind starts collecting dust along the way in the form of a clutter, foggy and unclear understanding.
So long as the mind gathers dust, it has to be cleaned. It is a constant process.

Under the leadership of Mr. Mahendra Chalke, a veteran in Drives & Automation Industry having worked for 28 years in various corporates; we are building a strong team of Channel Sales & Channel Partners to expand our Axpert-Eazy+ and Axpert-Eazy mini series LV Drives, Axpert-Opti torque series Soft-Starter & Axpert-i-Sine series Power Quality product’s standard module business.

Question: What are the advantages of using Active Harmonic Filter (AHF)?

Answer: Following are the advantages:
  • Harmonic distortion is reduced. As current distortion results in voltage distortion the voltage distortion is also improved.
  • Effective power factor is improved. AHF can maintain the power factor at set value irrespective of the changes in the load power factor.
  • Harmful effects such as more losses, more heating, degradation is reduced in case of motors, generators, PF capacitors, cables, fuses, transformers etc.
  • Transmission and distribution losses in plant are reduced.
  • Malfunction of components / equipment such as static relays, thermocouple -temperature indicators, PLC, telephone system, digital indicators and so on is eliminated.
  • The industrial plant will comply with Harmonic Standard such as IEEE 519:2014 standard if the harmonics are filtered to remain within limits.
  • Apart from harmonic filtering, AHF can also perform reactive power compensation and load balancing which helps to utilize the installed transformer capacity to the fullest.
  • Can adapt to the changes in harmonic spectrum of load.
  • Performs effectively irrespective of supply frequency variation.
  • No possibility of resonance.
  • Responsive only to the non-linear load it is supposed to take care of.
  • Overall efficiency and reliability of the plant is improved.
  • Harmonic filtering results in energy-saving up to 3% to 5%. The monitory saving can be because of the two things mentioned above. However, mitigation of harmonics results in prevention of plant failures, retardation of component degradation etc. This avoids huge losses in plant which is much more substantial than payback due to energy saving.

APPLICATION CASE STUDY - Energy saving in Furnace Blower
Problem: Difficulty in maintaining adequate furnace temperature and quality of material due to uncontrolled fire contents like coal powder, oil and gas.

All forced hot air furnaces are equipped with a furnace blower that works to circulate throughout the house. A home heater or furnace, that uses forced hot air consists of burner, plenum & furnace blower. In the typical forced hot air system, burner is fired by oil, natural gas, or coal powder. Air that is heated by burner is gathered in the plenum. The hot air is then forced, or blown from the plenum throughout the house by the furnace blower.
There are three different zones in furnace like socking, heating and preheating with each zone having different temperature range like socking temperature from 900...1250 °C, heating temperature from 750...900 °C and preheating temperature from 600...750 °C.
The furnace blower is feeding material in socking zone and metal row material enters into preheating zone.
Limitation of previous system:
  • Uncontrolled furnace temperature due to fix blower speed.
  • Quality of material not up to the mark.
  • Reduction in weight of final product material.

Challenges:
  • Loss of the costly material like gas, oil and coal powder as the fuel content is uncontrolled due to fix motor speed.
  • High starting current kick.
  • Cooling down of excessive surrounding plant temperature.

Solutions:
  • Provided Axpert-Engineered System with VFD.
  • Saving of gas, oil & coal powder due to automatic speed control of blower by sensing carbon content form pre-heater zone by fuel content analyzer & VFD.
  • Very smooth operation due to VFD.
  • Surrounding plant temperature reduced due to controlled furnace temperature.

Application Case Study
Yash Pakka Limited manufactures machine-glazed paper. The company offers paper products for consumer goods wrapping, agri-residue pulp and compostable disposables for food service and
delivery. The annual turnover of the company is 100 crores, and the company employs 350 people.
The Generator (TDPS) & Turbine (Triveni) are installed at the site situated at Ayodhya.
Overview about the previous system.
The Basler Digital Excitation Control System DECS-200 commissioned at site is a microprocessor-based control system intended for generator power management. Programmability of system parameters and regulation settings enables the DECS-200 to be used in a wide range of applications and provides greater flexibility in excitation system optimization.
The DECS-200 can accommodate generator exciter field requirements up to 15 Adc continuously in 32, 63, or 125 Vdc applications with
one model.

limitations / challenges of previous system
  • DECS-200 has only 11 contact inputs and all are fixed whereas DECS-250 has 16 contact inputs, out of which 2 inputs are fixed and 14 inputs are configurable.
  • DECS-200 has only 3 programmable outputs whereas DECS-250 has 12 outputs, out of which 1 output is fixed and 11 outputs are configurable.
  • Gain setting is time consuming in DECS-200 but in DECS-250 has auto tuning feature which is fast and easy.
  • DECS-200 doesn’t have PSS option but DECS-250 comes with different style number suitable with PSS application.
  • In the programming of DECS-200, no BESTCOMSPlus® logic facility available but in DECS-250 we can provide more features through appropriate logic.
  • DECS-200 has only one pre-position set point for each control mode but DECS-250 has there are three pre-position set points settings in each mode of operation in DECS-250.
  • Graphical representative analysis of parameters not possible in DECS-200.
  • DECS-200 can communicate with PC only through RS-232 port but DECS-250 has more communication options such as Serial communication through front-panel USB port, Modbus communication through RS-485 port or Modbus-TCP and Ethernet communication through an optional copper or fiber optic port etc.
The customer opted for the new system, as the DECS-250 is advanced version with more features.

Challenges in implementing new system
  • Thorough understanding of input-output configuration is necessary for up-gradation from DECS-200 to DECS-250.
  • Bestcom software knowledge is necessary because in DECS-200 there was no provision of new logics through software.

The VFD is equipped with advanced functions like speed search, auto restart with individual fault selection, power loss carry through (PLCT), kinetic energy buffering and heatsink/IGBT overtemperature alarm for the smooth operation of the VFD and motor in abnormal conditions.

The VFD has many diagnosis functions which helps in pinpointing the fault. They are Diagnosis Mode, Load Analyser1, Load Analyser2, Peak Monitoring, Auto restart monitoring and 3 warning. It also counts the events like Power On, Overtemperature fault, Overvoltage fault, Overcurrent fault, Earth fault and Overload fault. The fault history which is very important feature to understand the VFD and motor behavior during the fault conditions stores last 20 faults with date time, status and information of 8 operational parameters (output frequency, output current, dc bus voltage, Heatsink/IGBT temperature, kW, Total power ON time, kWH, MWH).
